A handicap system is used to determine medals. The racers’ best
handicap of the two runs is used to determine medal and team points.
Medals are awarded each night at the awards ceremony. Refer to the
official
handicap chart for details on the handicap system. The top six
scores from each team count for team points. These accumulate
weekly through Race 6 to determine league champions. Racers #7, #8, #9
and bonus points will be accumulated each week to determine any
tiebreakers at the last race.
25 pts for Platinum — 20 pts for Gold — 15 pts for Silver — 10 pts
for Bronze — 5 pts for "I did it"
The Ski Challenge handicap chart is slightly different than NASTAR.
NASTAR changes their chart every year based on percentages of total
racers. We elect not to change our chart based on this, as we
want to stay consistent from year to year. This season we have,
however, changed the kids' chart up to age 16 slightly. We felt
we needed to get a bit closer to the NASTAR scoring. When we
send scores in to NASTAR your handicap will be the same number you
received at the Ski Challenge race, only your medal may be different.
